Mimosa blooms

Our Mimosa tree has bloomed! This is one of my favorite trees, and one I had never seen until we moved to Texas. The leaves look similar to a fern and at night they curl up. It is also called a silk tree.

Enjoy your week

A fungus amungus

This morning we looked out and there was this very strange thing sticking out of the grass. It looked like a carrot sticking out of the ground. Upon closer inspection and a little research we found out it is a type of mushroom called a stinkhorn.

They can grow to this size (about 7") in less than an hour. VERY cool! AND yes they do stink. The "stink" attracts flys that pick up the fungus spores and distribute them. I dug it up and I can personally attest to the fact that THEY STINK like decay (nice) especially if you accidentally break them in half. Yuk!

A closer look at the spores.
It is exciting to see and learn something new. Texas is full of surprises!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Cornbread

Meet Cornbread. He has been supervising my latest photo project. Every time we start moving tractors, this little guy comes out to see what all the fuss is about. He even poses, this is his good side. *wink*

Mr and Mrs Davis say that he has a little girlfriend named Buttermilk. I am hoping she makes an appearance some time this week. I will keep you posted.
Enjoy your Sunday and keep snapping
Love y'all

What is this?

Any idea what this is?
Need a couple clues?
It is in a swampy area
It is NOT excreted by an animal (I know that's what you were thinking)

AND last but not least you CAN eat what comes out of it
Good luck and keep snapping

I am hoping for a more exciting day tomorrow AND looking forward to another day with the tractors on Friday. I can't wait!

The pavilion

My photo of the day is from another very old cemetery in East Texas

A peaceful place to sit and reflect at the New Hope Cemetery.

Texas pride

This is a photo of my neighbors lake and some of their property. I love the carved stone shape of Texas. It has been there for at least 60 years, maybe longer. Gorgeous!

Enjoy your Sunday

The challenge continues

A month ago I was inspired by a friend to post a photo a day. (thank you Diane) It has been a great experience! I have started seriously loving my camera again and have remembered how much I enjoy and love photography. The creativity is flowing again! Woohoo!
I will be continuing the photo a day challenge on my new photography blog page www.brickroadphoto.blogspot.com. If you have been following the posts on my personal blog www.itsasimplelittleblog.blogspot.com
Please come on over to www.brickroadphoto.blogspot.com and follow me. I will still be posting (boring) life updates on the "simple" blog page, but as my business "brickroadphoto" grows I need to separate things a bit.
SO the challenge continues AND East Texas is just waiting to be photographed!
Bring it on! I would love to have y'all along for the ride.

These boots are made for walkin' ...

Have a safe and fun weekend. My friends to the north, keep an eye to the sky and be safe.
