A sign?

Circling buzzards (aka turkey vultures) are never a good sign, BUT what about the buzzards that just sit and watch you....like they are waiting for something....((((shudder))). These guys used to spend a lot of time sitting on the fence above our home in Colorado. I came across the picture last night while doing some digital organizing.

Buzzards/Turkey Vultures are often seen standing in a spread-winged stance. This is called the "horaltic pose." The stance serves multiple functions, including warming the body and drying the wings.

Did you know they are bald for hygiene reasons? They often stick their heads inside of carcasses to feed. They are bald so the flesh of their "dinner" doesn't stick to their heads. Nice to know they are hygiene aware huh? ((double shudder))

SO there you have it! A few bits of information, you could probably live without, on the infamous buzzard/turkey vulture. *wink*

I sometimes wonder if they still hang around on that fence in Colorado. I still think it can't be a good sign... Glad they didn't follow us to Texas
There is beauty in everything, we just need to learn to look for it
